A delegation of Salvationists led by Colonels Rodney and Wendy Walters attended the Australian National Prayer Breakfast in The Great Hall at Parliament House on Monday.

“It was wonderful to meet with more than 500 delegates fellowshipping and praying together,” said Major Bruce Harmer, Head of External Communications.

“The keynote address from Max Jeganathan was outstanding. Drawing from his own life experience, Max impressed on us the need for us to apply more grace to all we do.”

Mr David Smith MP and Senator Matt O’Sullivan, co-chairs of the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship, extended an invitation to The Salvation Army delegation to attend the 35th Australian National Prayer Breakfast.

“Leaders from across the political spectrum, of different faiths or none, came together over breakfast as we prayed for God’s blessing on all who serve our great country,” said David.

Guest speaker Priyan (Max) Jeganathan related the story of his family’s “miraculous” escape from Sri Lanka’s civil war and arrival in Australia as refugees in the 1980s.

“Going on to work as a lawyer, policy adviser, speaker and writer, Max’s journey reflects the transformative beauty of enduring faith, amazing grace and an Australian ‘fair go’,” said David.

Attendees were also treated to a performance by the band Sons of Korah, who gave a unique musical interpretation of the Psalms.

The prayer breakfast was livestreamed, enabling households, schools, churches, and workplaces to join in as prayer was offered for Australia and its leaders.
