With a bushfire threatening the coastal town of Ledge Point in Western Australia, Salvation Army Emergency Services (SAES) teams are preparing meals for fire crews battling a total of three blazes burning across a region stretching about 100km north of Perth.

Residents of Ledge Point were this morning advised to leave immediately, with the blaze pushing west-north-westerly at a distance of only 500 metres from the caravan park.

About 30 SAES volunteers have been preparing food for more than 200 fire personnel each mealtime since last night, when they were deployed to a neighbouring blaze in the Shire of Gingin. Volunteers have also been transporting lunches to crews at Ledge Point, with the team transporting 250 rolls to fire crews earlier today.

WA Response Coordinator Benjamin Day said SAES crews were expecting to be deployed closer to the Ledge Point fire this afternoon, with a 40-minute drive between the Gingin Emergency Services Complex and the Ledge Point blaze making food transport difficult.
