A group of South Korean Salvationists travelling in Australia on a leadership training course were thrilled to meet General Lyndon and Commissioner Bronwyn Buckingham during the Sydney Rally.

The young adults have been in Australia for two weeks, visiting Salvation Army centres like Melbourne 614 and Sydney’s William Booth House and learning different mission and ministry techniques. When given the opportunity to meet General Buckingham, the group formulated three questions on leadership to ask him.

• What kind of leader is a good leader?

• Could you say something to young leaders in The Salvation Army?

• What kind of problems are we facing right now as Christians?

Commissioner Miriam Gluyas is interviewed about leadership by a group of South Korean Salvation Army youth-in-training.

The group had their photo taken with General Lyndon and Commissioner Bronwyn Buckingham and The Salvation Army’s Australian mascot, ‘Shieldy’. They also videoed their interview with the General. Earlier in the day, they interviewed Australia Territory Commander Commissioner Miriam Gluyas with similar questions.

“We were so excited to get the chance to meet the General because we want to be good leaders,” said a spokesperson for the group, Esther Jo. “We want to mimic Jesus, and he is one of the ‘mimicking Jesus’ leaders – that’s why we were so excited to meet and speak with him.”

The group will not only take home experiences that will shape their mission and ministry into the future, but they’ll also have footage and photos to share with their friends about the day they chatted with the world leader of The Salvation Army.

About 30 young Salvationists from South Korea who are in Australia on a leadership training tour had the chance to meet the world leaders of The Salvation Army, General Lyndon and Commissioner Bronwyn Buckingham.
